“Never give up! Never surrender!”
Ah…Galaxy Quest – the funniest film that Alan Rickman ever made and still a classic, cult hit. (That wasn’t his line incidentally – his was MUCH funnier!)
That message is solid: motivated people never give up, they never surrender.
In terms of successful website design, that translates into constantly checking and monitoring what is working and what is not. A website, like a piece of music, is never finished – it is just released.
When we run web design workshops we often hear laments from businesses that they spent “a fortune” (fortune being a relative term – every business has different resources after all) on their website and got nothing back from it. When we ask a few more questions we normally find that the website was simply launched and left.
I guess that would be like hiring a sales person, sitting them in the corner, never talking to them or doing anything to help them along, letting them make mistakes in isolation, and still expecting them to hit target.
Would you really do that?
Of course some businesses just want a basic online brochure and we get that – we are not in that market and so we are always happy to pass those along to other designers who are only interested in that kind of work.
I guess that is a kind of giving up – but we know what we are best at and it is best to avoid work that does not fit what you are looking for.
What we look for are customers who are hungry for success, who know that there is a better way, who have an idea that they can exploit, who see opportunity where others see problems, who want to win, who have had the brochureware site and know it does not work, who want (and demand!) measurable results in step with every £ they spend.
We never give up on those customers.
What will you do this Monday morning to push your website onwards and upwards? Why not call me to talk through your ideas – advice is free!
