Visualise What Success is For Your Website - #MondayMotivation 5

What is an athlete imagining when he or she steps up to the start line?

If they are any good, there can be only one thing – crossing the line first!

Even those that lined up against the mighty Usain Bolt were visualising crossing the line ahead of him; hearing the applause, smiling for the cameras, feeling the weight of the gold medal round their necks. Otherwise why would they even bother showing up?

website success finishing line

Visualising your final successful website design is also a critical skill that you need to win online. Of course you want to picture yours as the very best website ever created and that it will help you win more business, but the real key to success is to visualise how your customers will win something for themselves by using your website.

When you do this, when you stand in their shoes, you will see what they see, feel what they feel and act as they act. Only then can you visualise what will motivate them to make that all important final click.

That takes a lot of time and pre-planning and you have to work with a partner that is prepared to help you on the journey. You see, many web sites end up reflecting the business back at themselves. It is flattering and engaging to the business owners and it does really sell …but mostly to friends and family!

What makes an exceptional website is one that speaks directly to your main target market and channels the right kind of visitor to the right outcomes.

Note the phrase “the right kind of visitor”. It is just as valid to qualify a visitor out as it is to qualify one in: this is why I hate it when we are asked to “Send us some links to samples of your work” – all our work is carefully crafted to deliver a result for that specific client with that specific customer base in mind. That does not readily transfer to other businesses – people who charter yachts are motivated differently to people who provide building services.

One size does not fit all! One design does not work for all! The template model is dead!

They key is to develop a relationship with a great web design house that will take time to understand not just how your business works and what image you want to portray to the world, but what motivates your clients to deal with you. And you may have several different types of clients, so constructing pages that work at a number of levels is also extremely important.

People who only talk about themselves are boring: people who talk to you about you are the most understanding, friendly and trustworthy people in the world. So it is with websites.

Don’t tell them how brilliant you are – show them how they can achieve what they want by dealing with you. Let them visualise their own success with you at the centre of it.

What will you do this Monday morning to help your visitors visualise success on your website? Why not call me to talk through your ideas – advice is free!
